10:40am Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
A SECTION of the M65 was closed for a short time on Monday afternoon while police dealt with a man who was described as being in a ‘distressed state’.
It is believed that he had made threats to jump from a bridge.
The motorway was closed between junction seven and eight for a short period of time while police dealt with the incident, on the eastbound carriageway.
A rolling road block was put in place to minimise disruption to traffic.
The man was taken to hospital straight away so that he could receive appropriate help and support.
The incident, which happened at around 2pm, caused minimal traffic disruption, and the roads were soon flowing freely again.
A police spokeswoman said: “We had to close the motorway due to someone in a distressed state needing to be talked down.
“The motorway was only closed for a very short period of time, and in fact we put a rolling road block in place.
“The man needed support, so he was taken to hospital. The incident was dealt with very quickly.”
