Young actors from Oswaldtwistle to produce play in just a week
8:00am Monday 26th August 2013 in News
A TROUPE of budding actors and actresses will be put to the test as they put together a play — in just a week.
Youngsters from Sparks, the youth drama club connection to the Oswaldtwistle Players, have been meeting all summer and will undergo their annual challenge starting today Gayle Knight from the Civic Arts Centre said: “Every summer they have put on a different play. Last year it was the Twits and the year before it was a Midsummer Night’s Dream.
“The group has been getting together all summer and this week they will go out with a bang.”
On Saturday they showcased everything they have done this summer, but the hard work will begin on today when they are given a new play to rehearse. Gayle said: “It will be Save the Humans’ by David Wood.
“When they are not rehearsing they will be working on the props, making and preparing them.
“Save the Humans is a story about animals that have taken over the world after people made a mess of it. It’s a very funny play but with a serious message, one that is very relevant.”
The Oswaldtwistle Players is a community drama group based at the Civic Arts Centre and members set up Sparks several years ago to introduce new blood.
Gayle said: “They realised they were getting on a bit.
“The Players’ next play is the Curious Savage, which they will perform in October.
“One of the members of Sparks has ‘graduated’ into the Players.”
Save the Humans will be performed in front of an audience of friends, family and members of the public on Friday from 7.30pm.
