Food festival draws crowds
AROUND 70 local producers will be showcasing their food tomorrow amid the picturesque setting of Stonyhurst College on the final day of a popular show.
The Great British Food Festival has been taking place in the Ribble Valley all weekend and has been hailed a huge success by organisers.
Guest star chef Simon Rimmer, best known for appearing on Channel Four’s Sunday Brunch, wowed the crowds with a cookery demonstration on Saturday.
Organiser Danny Maycock said they had welcomed around 3,500 people through the gates on Saturday.
He said: “It has been a good turn-out so far, despite the bad weather forecast, and we are hoping for 4,000 tomorrow.
“Simon Rimmer was very popular. The place was packed with people queuing to get in.
“We also had a ‘Man Versus Food’ challenge where competitors had to down a chilli shot, eat a chilli sausage and then some chilli ice cream.
“And there was the cake competition which saw a number of amateur bakers take part.
“Free cake always goes down well!”
As well as the food, there was also live music entertaining the crowds and children’s entertainers making it suitable for a family day out.
