Blow for Darwen holiday makers as TV Travel 'suspends business'
5:00pm Thursday 8th August 2013 in News
CUSTOMERS have been left hundreds of pounds out of pocket after a travel agent announced it had ‘suspended its business’.
TV Travel in Darwen provides coach hire as well as day trips and holidays to resorts throughout the UK.
But for the past fortnight, the shutters have been down and holidays have been cancelled, some without notice.
Two firms, Autumn Travel and Blakewater Coaches, registered to Blackburn Road, Ribchester, were established in 1993 before their amalgamation saw the creation of TV Travel in September last year.
When the Lancashire Telegraph visited the company’s Duckworth Street office, the landlord of the premises said he hadn’t been told the firm had suspended its business.
An answerphone message said: “Hello, this is TV Travel. Unfortunately, due to a number of trading difficulties, we have had to suspend the business.
“We are working to resolve the situation but cannot give any more information at the moment.”
Sheila Livesey has paid £462 for a group booking that would see 22 members of Hapton Over-60s Luncheon Club visit Cleveleys and Blackpool for the day on August 21.
She said: “We have booked it as our annual summer trip and it was all paid for.
“We were going for a fish and chip lunch at Cleveleys, then on to Blackpool Tower for afternoon tea and to watch the dancing.
“It looks like we won’t be going now, but everything is up in the air.
Pensioner Tom Mitchell, 76, of Everton Street, Darwen, said he had paid almost £700 for himself and a friend to go to Weston-Super-Mare.
He said: “It is just disappointing but I guess it is one of those things.
“The week before our trip was meant to leave I had been on a day trip to York and it was fine.
“I had been with them for the past two years and and they have always been fine.”
