A MAN was left needing surgery after his teeth were pushed back into his mouth during an ‘unprovoked’ attack in a pub.

The 48-year-old victim had been drinking in the Grey Horse pub, in Whalley Road, Accrington, when he was assaulted, police said.

As well as the painful mouth injury, he also received a head injury during the incident which happened at 9.30pm on Sunday.

Detective Sergeant Julie Cross, of Eastern division CID, said: “This was a concerning unprovoked attack on man out drinking during the bank holiday weekend.

“At this stage we are unsure what sparked the disturbance.

“I appeal for anyone who witnessed this incident or knows who was involved to come forward and contact police directly.”

The victim, who is from the town, was said to be recovering after treatment at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

A 24-year-old Accrington man has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
