Warning as cannabis factory found in Darwen

A CANNABIS factory has been discovered by police during a raid on a house.

Police found 38 plants in the back bedroom of the house on Inverness Road, Darwen on Monday.

Officers raided the address after receiving a tip off from a concerned resident.

The plants, which have a potential street value of £19,000 have been seized.

Darwen Community beat manager, PC Mark Edwards, said: "Once again we have taken action to address community concerns. “We will continue to do all we can to remove drugs from our neighbourhoods and target those responsible."

A 41-year-old man is to be interviewed about the find.

Anyone with information or concerns about drugs in their area should call police on 101.

Why does the Telegraph always use the term 'factory' to describe these agricultural incidents?

Surely there are far better ways to define the cultivation of an organic product (albeit in a house). If tomatoes were being grown to sell at a farmers market, would the same house be deemed a 'factory'? I don't think a 'manufacturing' term would be used, it would still be a house, cultivating.

'Canabis Factory' always smacks of lazy sensationalision of what is now a very common occurrence.

Here's some more acurate suggestions that maybe you can use next time:

Farm, plantation, yield, crop, nursery, harvest, reaping, blah blah blah - you get the point.

'A factory (previously manufactory) or manufacturing plant is an industrial site, usually consisting of buildings and machinery, or more commonly a complex having several buildings, where workers manufacture goods or operate machines processing one product into another.'

Unless maybe... within this residential building, the cannabis they were 'manufacturing' was synthetic, like faux flowers with silk cannabis leaves, plastic stems, potpourri buds scented with feline urine???
