Eleven men arrested after Blackburn street brawl
5:04pm Tuesday 19th March 2013 in News
ELEVEN men were arrested after a brawl in a quiet residential area.
Police were called to reports of a group of men fighting, and cars being damaged, in the Dukes Brow area of Blackburn.
The men had left the area when officers arrived, but police were then contacted by the ambulance service because a man was being treated for injuries in Woodbine Road.
He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital and treated for a head injury that needed stitches.
Shortly after the incident, at 9.20pm on Sunday, 11 men were arrested on suspicion of assault, and conspiracy to commit violent disorder.
Yesterday they were being questioned by detectives.
Det Insp Mark Vaughton, of Blackburn CID, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed what happened to contact the police.
“We are looking into the matter, and a team of officers are carrying out inquiries including checking CCTV, and conducting house-to-house inquiries.”
Sue Ainsworth, landlady of The Alexandra pub, in Dukes Brow, said: “This is a quiet area. Very peaceful. I am extremely shocked. This sort of thing is unheard of around here.”
