Accrington duo made threats to attack victim
4:38pm Tuesday 19th March 2013 in News
TWO louts who thought they were big and tried to intimidate an assault victim and witness when magistrates were considering their verdict, were spared jail.
Burnley Crown Court heard how Zebo Burgess and his friend Amer Ahmed, both 21, struck at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court. Burgess was on trial but Ahmed, said to have learning difficulties, had nothing to do with the case.
Complainant Daniel Calverley and his witness had been threatened by the ‘posturing’ defendants, in an act of ‘bravado’ after Mr Calverley had given evidence.
Burgess, of Nuttall Street and Ahmed, of Higher Antley Street, both Accrington, had admitted taking revenge.
They were each given nine months in prison, suspended for 18 months, with 12 months’ supervision and 100 hours unpaid work. They must each pay £100 costs.
