Take on firefighters in charity challenge
ARE you fit enough to take on the firefighters in a charity challenge?
Crews from Nelson, Burnley and Colne have thrown down the gauntlet and called on the public to take part in the Beat the Firefighter Challenge.
The gruelling event, which will raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity, will take place at Seedhill Athletics Track, Nelson, on April 13.
Teams of four will compete in a series of strength and endurance tests, including carrying a hose reel weighing between 15 to 20kg, a distance of 800m.
There will also be a shuttle race carrying a 30kg dummy as well as other tests. Tom Harrety, from Nelson's blue watch who came up with the idea, said: “I wanted to do something which was a bit like a gym challenge but that would reach out to the wider community that everyone could take part in.
“All the money raised will go to the Fire Fighters Charity, something close to all our hearts. We are hoping to raise £1,000.”
Teams of four can enter for £32 or individuals for £10. The event is open to adults only.
Entry forms are available from Pendle Leisure Centre, Wavelengths in Nelson, West Craven Sports Centre and Nelson Fire station or by calling Nelson fire station on 01282 612312.

Make sure you don't organise the event for after 9 pm at night because that would distrupt the night shifts sleep pattern.
