'Do-it-yourself' check-ins for East Lancashire Hospitals

SELF check-in kiosks, similar to those used in airports, are to be installed for patients in East Lancashire.

The machines have been introduced at Royal Blackburn Hospital, Burnley General Hospital and Rossendale Primary Health Care Centre The kiosks allow patients to check in for their appointment themselves, rather than wait to speak to a receptionist. It takes about 30 seconds to check in using the kiosks, with patients able to swipe their fingers over the touch screen and input their details into the machine.

Rosemary Duckworth, patient administration manager at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “This is an exciting move for our patients and a major step forward in reaching our goal to maximise the use of the most up-to-date technology in the delivery of local health care.

“It will help save them time and in some cases even provide more privacy because details will not have to be discussed at the desk.”
