SCOOBY-DOO, characters from Star Wars, and Vikings were among those who boogied on down in Darwen town centre.
The pop-up event was organised by Darrener Mikey Davies, as part of the Harlem Shake phenomenon – an internet sensation which sees groups of people get together to perform a routine.
The 24-year-old, who runs his own media company from his home in Blackburn Road, said around 400 people took part in the dance, which was held at the Bridgewater pub, in Church Street, with a further 400 people turning up to see what was going on.
Mikey said: “It went really well.
“A lot more people turned up than I expected.
“I made a Facebook event four days before the actual thing and within 24 hours, hundreds of people said they were coming.
“Some parents brought their kids down and wanted to get involved. They had a great time, too.”
The YouTube sensation was started by five Australian teenagers in February known as The Sunny Coast Skate.
The idea has since been copied all over the world.
Within days of the first video being uploaded, 40,000 Harlem Shake videos had been put on YouTube, totalling 175 million views.
