Blackburn youngsters sign up for breakfast club

A BLACKBURN primary school is helping pupils to feed their imagination by signing up to breakfast club sponsored by bread company Kingsmill.

Sacred Heart RC Primary School, in St Silas’s Road, has joined the company’s second national school programme which is designed to help Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils aged four to 11 understand breakfast why it is the most important meal of the day.

More than 684 schools have signed up so far, reaching an estimated 233,928 pupils.

Four activities have been created to challenge the children’s vocabulary, creativity, basic fitness and numeracy, featuring a team of four characters who form The Breakfast Squad. Jane Smith, Sacred Heart deputy head, said: “The children looking forward to completing the activities including the competition and have told me that the bread is yummy.”

Jon Wilson, from Kingsmill, said: “We believe it is important to teach children the importance of breakfast, and to help them understand why having it will benefit them throughout the day.

“We hope The Breakfast Squad will get children excited about what they eat, and help them understand the benefits of a balanced breakfast.”
