Hyndburn residents take action against landfill operators

First published in News

A TOTAL of 94 residents near an East Lancashire waste landfill site have started legal proceedings against its operators.

Solicitors acting for people living near the Whinney Hill Road tip in Altham near Accrington have written to Sita UK informing them of their intention to mount a court claim over claims of foul smells.

Lawyer Rhian Morgan said her aim was to end the problem with a secondary claim for compensation for past problems caused by odours. Sita UK said: “All operations are undertaken in line with robust environmental legislation.”

Hugh James Solicitors will answer residents’ questions at an open day at Accrington Stanley Football Club from 2pm to 8pm today.

What do you expect when you buy a house right near a tip common sense tells you not to buy it. Thats why they were so cheap when they were built.
The other danger from this tip is comtaminated water, methene, getting into the ground then into the water system this will happen sooner or later god help you when this happens because the council will deny it until the cows come home.
The people at fault here are the council for giving planning permission for houses to be built right at the bottom of a tip and quary this should never have been aproved upon health concerns but guess what the council dont care about the people of accrington thire to busy sucking up to all these big companys wanting planning permision in a few years time there will be know where to build because they have sold all the good stuff of to these greedy companys.
At the end of the day the council should face upto the fact that they have done another clanger by letting these houses being built near a tip how thick can they be but guess what they will never listen to anybodys views because thier to arrogant they are hell bent on destroyting accrington and they will succeed because they have no one to answer to.
Untill the people of Accrington and Ossy wake up and stand up to them and say enough is enough they will carry on making **** ups like above, I wonder how much they paid out in wasted surveys about the isues they would have at a later date with building house so close to a tip.
Common sense dont build at the bottom of tip no cost!
