Water bills in East Lancashire set to rise

HOUSEHOLDS in Lancashire will see more than £125million poured into preventing flooding and wasted water over the next 12 months.

But average water bills in the county are expected to rise due to inflation to around £406, a rise of around £13 per household this year.

However United Utilities say they will also be spending the money to deliver vital engineering schemes.

The company said the works being undertaken would reduce water leaks and sewer flooding, safeguard future water supplies and help protect rivers and bathing waters.

Projects will include a £7million scheme to enchance water quality in the River Irwell and £18m on work to upgrade Lancaster’s ageing sewer network.

The schemes are part of a record-breaking £3.6 billion investment programme for the North West’s water and wastewater network, running between 2010 and 2015.

Average household water bills are set to rise from April 1.

Gary Dixon, United Utilities' customer services director, said: “The small increase in prices this year is due largely to the rise in inflation.

“Even so, customers in the North West will still be paying around £1 per day, about the same as a loaf of bread, for all their water and sewerage services.

“We’ll be putting that money to good use, by ensuring the region’s water network, treatment works and sewer systems get the investment needed to deliver the service our customers expect.

“It is estimated that this investment programme is pumping around £7 billion into the North West economy.”

We must never forget that "New Labour" got us into the sad and sorry state that we find ourselves in. It was "New Labour" politically disorientated, politically(in) corect, champagne socialist policies that have left the country bankrupt both morally and economically. New Labour had Thirteen years in office to introduce legislation to prevent constant hikes in utility bills. What did "New Labour" do? Absolutely nothing. Miliband? BBBBBBalls? Mrs Balls?
Laugh I very nearly split my sides!

Don't you just love the way that United Utilities hike up their prices, so that in June, they pay out twice that rise, in dividends to shareholders.
Of course, there is no moral conscience to those payouts because of the corporate stockholders refusing to display any embarrassment over the obscenity of this daylight robbery..
Nobody has the nouse to add up what this rise will generate then equate this to the total dividends.
(almost 33 pence per share, last year)

They should take a look at where they are wasting money before putting prices up.

I called the water board out last year when I moved house as the water had an awful taste to it. Chap turns up, I explain, offer him a taste of the water (declined) but all he did was hand me a leaflet & said 'everything;s in there Love' & turned around to leave!

I insisted he did 'something' as that's what i'd been told he was coming out to do...not hand deliver a leaflet that could have been sent by post & therefore wasting a days annual leave for me!!

Reluctant doesn't cover it! How much money must be wasted by that practice.
