Runaway trolley causes car crash
4:10pm Tuesday 5th February 2013 in News
A FAMILY has been left with a bill of several hundred pounds after a ‘runaway’ trolley smashed into their car at Blackburn’s Asda.
Michelle Swinhoe was leaving the Lower Audley Street car park with her three-year-old son Declan when the trolley rolled down the sloped car park and crashed into their Vauxhall Astra.
Left shaken, the 37-year-old, from Bonsall Street in Mill Hill, drove home following the midday incident on Thursday.
Her partner, Duncan Schofield inspected the damage and complained in person to the store the following day.
He said the supermarket claimed that they were not responsible for damage to cars, but the angry shopper said the trolley had rolled due to the design of the car park and abundance of abandoned trolleys.
He said: “They should have more trolley collectors. They have signs up saying that they cannot accept liability of any damage to cars, but the car was damaged by the badly-designed sloping car park.
“I’m sure I’m not the first person to complain and I won’t be the last.
An Asda spokesman said: “We are looking into this.”

I'm not talking about Asda either. It happens in all supermarket car parks. Perhaps if they all required £1 people would have to put them back correctly.

It needs someone with a few quid to sue them before they will do anything. My advice would be to get in touch with BRAG there redundant at the moment, could organise a boycott/demonstratio
It could have been caused by someone too lazy to leave their trolley in the trolley bays. I'm fed up with trying to pull into a parking space only to find an abandoned trolley blocking the front part of the space. It doesn't take more than a minute to walk to a trolley bay and ensure the trolley is stable.

Some people will also try to put the blame on others. The woman's carelessness.

So Asda state they accept no liability for damage to cars - clear.
There is a sloping car park where trolleys are left - clear.
What's the issue and why are you moaning - life's a b&*! sometimes but you can make things easy by applying some common sense.

Several hundred pounds damage to an Astra by an empty shopping trolley and a shaken driver after the collision, Jeremy Clarkeson would love it. The moral is, don't buy an Astra if you take on errant shopping trolleys, or don't shop at Asda.

Unfortunately, CCTV isn't installed in the car park, so no footage would be available to view. A knock on effect is, these car parks are not safe places for women to be in during the short days of Winter.
My advice would be, to shop at Tesco, where there is CCTV and more responsible shoppers, who tend to return trollies.

For a couple of reasons, firstly that stupid new layout they call a car park, secondly people think its ok to dump their trolleys all over the place and I do not like the idea of having My car damaged, whilst the trolley collectors stand around chatting and playing with their phones. Probably cause they can do what they want and no one can watch them, no CCTV. It's a joke, I do not blame the driver, I blame asda. When someone parks on their car park to go in their store and spend money then they should be responsible, those signs should apply to theft from cars etc, not damage from the property of asda. Also the driver may not have realised how bad the damage to her car was at the time it happened, it's not exactly the best lit place to go, good luck to the driver, I hope you get it sorted.....before anyone comments, I work, I'm not a scrounger, a serial claimer or any such like......just saying

Why blame bloody Asda?
It was an accident, possibly caused by an inconsiderate shopper, possibly not.
