THE life stories of over-60s in Darwen will be used to record a charity single.

Howard Hudson, who runs sheltered accommodation unit Lees Court in Ribble Avenue, is part of a national project where people over the age of 60 will contribute to the words of a charity song to be released as a single.

People are invited to go into either Lees Court, Hindle Court in Peabody Street or Pembroke Court in George Street, all run by national firm Anchor, and fill out a questionnaire.

Answers will be used in the song, which will be sung by The Anchor Community Band, made up of older people living in the care homes.

The hunt is also on to find a local recording studio where Darwen’s Anchor Community Band members can record their song free of charge.

Mr Hudson said the project followed on from campaign Grey Pride, which raised awareness of the issues faced by older people.

He said: “Music is a powerful medium which brings people together and the record will give older people a voice.

“The lyrics of the song will be shaped by what people from across the country, including Darwen, mention on the forms.

“I would like to hear about older people’s achievements, aspirations and the challenges they have overcome in life as well as hearing about the benefits of old age.

“We wanted to continue Grey Pride in a fun way by celebrating the wealth of talent and experience older people have.”

Questions over-60s will be asked include: * What are the greatest achievements of your life, so far?

* What are the benefits that come with age?

* What is the most important lesson you have learnt in life? And what is the best piece of advice you have been given, or could give?

* What does ‘happy living’ mean to you?

All the money raised will go to Contact the Elderly, which aims to combat the loneliness and social isolation faced by many older people aged over 75, who live alone.

Any over-60s wanting to share their experiences for the song or recording studios wanting to help can contact Howard Hudson on 01254 706501.
