POLICE are re-appealing for information after a burglary in Accrington.

At around 3.30pm on November 28, a couple returned to their home on Queens Road West to find that the side door had been forced open.

As they entered the house, the retired couple were confronted by a man coming down the stairs.

The man claimed to be a police officer checking on the property but, when challenged by the male owner of the house, a struggle broke out and he was assaulted.

The householder suffered facial injuries and bruising and a laptop and items of jewellery were taken.

They had sentimental value for the family and so officers are renewing their appeal in the hope that the items may eventually be returned.

The laptop held all the couple’s family photographs and one of the items of jewellery, a gold link chain bracelet with an oval lapis lazuli, was bought for the woman householder as a 21st birthday present by her mother who has since died.
