Snow falls in East Lancashire

The first snow of the winter fell in East Lancashire this morning.

The Lancashire Telegraph has received reports of snow falling in Burnley, Darwen and the Ribble Valley. There were were also sleet showers in Blackburn.

East Lancashire woke up to icy conditions yesterday - and the cold weather is set to continue into the weekend.

Pendle Hill was given a dusting of white as temperatures dropped to around -3C.

And motorists were advised to take extra care on the roads after gritters from both Lancashire County and Blackburn with Darwen Borough councils were out in force.

Today the Met Office predicted temperatures across East Lancashire will reach no higher than 2C, falling to around -1C. However because of the windchill factor it will feel more like -7C.

Tomorrow will be cloudy, with sunny intervals with temperatures reaching 3C. Over the weekend there will also be sunny spells and clouds, with a high of 4C and lows of -1.

Michael Dukes, director of forecasting at MeteoGroup, has warned of continuing difficult driving conditions.

He said: "There could be some widespread ice issues this morning in Scotland and in north west England. There will be some rain, sleet and snow falling over frozen ground."
