A DRUNKEN man who swiped the glasses off a table in an Accrington bar was arrested for assault.

Blackburn magistrates heard that a glass flew into the face of Sarah Jane Marshall and chipped one of her teeth.

And Imran Hussain, defending Ryan Valentine, could not explain why he had lashed out because he could not remember doing it. “He has unwittingly become an excellent advertisement for responsible drinking,” said Mr Hussain.

Valentine, 23, of Argyle Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to assaulting Miss Marshall. He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months, ordered to do 120 hours unpaid work and pay £100 compensation and £145 costs.

Neil White, prosecuting, said Miss Marshall was in the Voodoo Lounge enjoying a night out when she was hit with the flying glass. He said she had nothing to do with the defendant and was a totally innocent victim of his recklessness.
