A WOMAN had to pay £250 after she paid someone to get rid of household waste that was then dumped in Hoddlesden.

Aliha Taj, of Howarth Avenue, Accrington, was charged with breaching section 32(2a) of the Environmental Protection Act relating to household waste duty of care.

Blackburn magistrates heard evidence found in building rubble and insulation dumped in Long Hey Lane pointed to a property in Accrington belonging Miss Taj.

She admitted to passing on the waste for disposal without taking reasonable care as to who she was giving it to or exchanging any proper documentation for the transfer.

She was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £250 costs.

Coun Faryad Hussain, executive member for environmental improvement and sustainability, said: “We will continue to prosecute anyone found guilty of dumping rubbish in our borough.

"Furthermore we will name and shame them in the local press so I hope people will think twice if they are thinking of doing this.”
