ONE HUNDRED meters of dry stone wall on the Leeds Liverpool Canal is set to be restored.
A team of locally-trained volunteers will be heading out on to the towpath to begin reinstating the section after Tesco donated 10,000kg of stone.
The Canal & River Trust, which manages the waterway, has welcomed the news.
It launched a £2,500 fundraising appeal in October to help to repair a damaged section of historic boundary wall between the Leeds Liverpool Canal and neighbouring grazing land at a section between Cut Lane and Norden Bridge near Rishton.
Haslingden firm, Terra Firma Environmental Ltd has helped to provide the training to the group of volunteers.
Matt Taylor, volunteer coordinator for the Canal & River Trust, said: “It’s fantastic that Tesco have offered us their support.
“Dry stone walling is a dying trade and it is one that we’re determined to protect as the walls are such a strong feature of the canal environment.”
