RESIDENTS of Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Ribble Valley and Rossendale are being asked to consider standing for Lancashire County Council in May next year.

The authority is holding a special information evening to tell would-be politicians how to put their names forward for office.

Chief Executive Phil Halsall is making clear that anyone can stand for the crucial job without having to be endorsed or support a political party.

He said: “Becoming a county councillor would allow you to have a major influence in your community.”

The information evening, which is open to everyone, is at County Hall in Preston on Wednesday 28 November, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

Mr Halsall said: “Most people could stand as a county councillor. “You don’t need to be from a certain background or have any specific experience.

“If you’re interested in finding out more about putting yourself forward for election, our information evening will help you to find out more.

“You don’t have to belong to or represent a political party to stand in the elections.”
