THE parents of a 10-month-boy have been arrested after he suffered a serious head injury.

Detectives from Lancashire police’s public protection unit have launched an investigation into how the baby, who is now in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, received his injuries, police said.

Initially, it was thought he had suffered a fractured skull, but further tests by doctors confirmed this not to be the case.

It is thought the youngster was hurt on or before October 28, police said.

The child’s 33-year-old mother and 36-year-old father both from Rishton have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievious bodily harm with intent.

The pair have now been released on police bail until January 3, pending further enquiries.

The youngster who has been in hospital 11 days, is said to be ‘doing well’ by police and is expected to make a full recovery.

Along with his siblings, the baby has been removed from his parents’ care.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: “An investigation is underway after a baby boy suffered a serious head injury in Rishton.

“A 33-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man from Rishton were arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and have been bailed until January 2013 pending further enquiries.”
