COMIC Ted Robbins joined forces with the Dean of Blackburn for a 24-hour ‘poetrython’.
Mr Robbins and the Very Rev Christopher Armstrong toured Blackburn reading a variety of poems in a bid to boost Cathedral funds.
The mammoth task was part of the Cathedral’s bid to raise £3.5million –- of which almost £1m has been raised.
The pair took turns to read poetry at the Cathedral, Mall, the market, Asda and the Postal Order pub before returning to the Cathedral.
The first poem was read at noon yesterday and the ‘most unusual double act’ were due to finish at the Cathedral at noon today, having read poems all through the night.
Scouser Ted, who is in rehearsals to play the dame in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Charter Theatre, Preston, said he was delighted to be involved.
He said: “I have a passion for poetry so it was great to be asked to help out.
“It was amazing how many people have come along to listen. We had people asking for poems and sponsoring poems.
“We even had one chap called George who asked me to read a poem he had written in memory of his late wife.”
