Depressed jobless man took his own life in Darwen

A BREWERY worker who was made redundant after 22 years fell into depression before hanging himself, Blackburn Coroner’s Court heard.
Bernard Holden, 61, worked for Samlesbury-based brewery Inbev and lost his job in May this year.
He was discovered by police on the land just off Belmont Road in Darwen on August 15, following concerns from his family that he was missing.
Giving evidence at the inquest Mr Holden’s brother David said that being out of a job had affected him.
He said: “He was left in limbo because of the job situation and raised concerns that he was feeling low, but I wasn’t particularly worried.”
East Lancashire’s deputy coroner Elaine Block said that Mr Holden had ‘killed himself when the balance of his mind was disturbed’.
