Danger Blackburn underpass entrances concreted shut

FORMER entrances to a Blackburn underpass were concreted shut yesterday.

Workers first built a breeze-block wall, before pouring concrete to ground level.

The entrances led to the underpass under Salford in the town centre, linking the market and Railway Road areas.

But they had been cordoned off for several years as the steps were in a dangerous condition.

The underpass can still be accessed by a separate entrance.

It's a bit of shame that as a society we can't have an underpass without it becoming a no-go area.

Concreted shut, but the underpass can still be accessed by a separate entrance?

Only the damaged steps have been concreted shut, you can still walk down the ramps. There have been railings up closing off the steps for a few years that seemed perfectly sufficient. Wonder where the money has come from to build the new walls, anyone would think that it's the end of the financial year!

Why couldn't they have spent the money repairing the steps?
Oh yeah, that involves logic and common sense, that's the council ruled out then...

Surely it would have been easier to repair the steps rather than build a couple of large walls. Given this logic, I can see the pothole outside my house having a wall being built around it or even the entire road closed, rather than a bit of tarmac thrown in. The chavs do love to claim off the Council though, as it doesn't hit their pocket given they don't pay any Council tax! Possibly we should ban all steps, to follow the smoking, drinking, fatty food, supermarket plastic bags bans.
