Massive pirate DVD seizure in Blackburn

PIRATE DVDs and computer games worth £50,000 have been seized from a house in Blackburn.

Police and trading standards officers also recovered 11 CD making-machines worth £3,000 from the house in Brooklands Terrace, Little Harwood.

Recordings of brand-new hit movies, including Atonement, Jumper, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Rambo 4 - which has not yet been released on DVD - were recovered.

Nobody has been arrested, but a man living in the house is set to be questioned on suspicion of breaching copyright and trade marks legislation.

Chris Allen, head of environmental health and trading standards at Blackburn with Darwen council, said police intelligence led to Wednesday's raid.

He said the DVDs and games seized - which filled a van - would have been worth £50,000 if sold by a high street retailer.

Forensic tests will be carried out to try and track down where the equipment came from, he said.

He added: "We will carry out tests to try and find out the supply chain.

"We pick up information like this on a regular basis, and it is a national problem.

"But this was a good seizure. There were up-to-the-minute films and games, and I would say the detriment to the economy would be £50,000.

"It's certainly not just someone playing around. To have 11 CD burners shows some commitment to defrauding the public."

One resident of Brooklands Terrace, Little Harwood, who asked to remain anonymous said: "This is a really quiet street. I was out at work when it happened.

"Nothing like this has happened before."

Some people disgust me with their moral high ground when its blatantly obvious that these so called do-gooders actually just like many many people enjoy cable tv, DVDs, movies and sports be it by paying a extortionate rate to SKY or which ever company it maybe or quite wisely by paying very little money to the Robin Hoods of this world such as Adam.

i know 3 so called police officers who have bragged about buying pirate dvds. adam is a top man and its not like hes runing peoples lives like these druggies that get away all the time. no wonder our country is in such a dire state. concentrate on the more important things instead of chasing people like this.

In reply to clueless ASH, firstly his car is not a convertible, his house is mortgaged and his wife paid for her own car, as she works full time. Get your facts right before posting! I know the guy personally, and the money he made paid for a night out with his mates, nothing more. Love the way ASH posted twice, and in caps, what a joke!

As far as Im concerned its a minor crime. Where are the police when people are being terrorised, abused and killed by violent feral pack of youths? I assume the police are too busy with their speed cameras and investigating people selling pirate movies. Where is the justice system when it comes to violent robbers and violent feral youths?? I guess just giving them the badge of honour ASBOS and a slap on the wrist.

How about the police and their so-called intelligence investigate real anti-social and violent crimes instead of being impotent and trying to hide behind bureaucratic red tape and submitting to the do-gooders
