By Peter Magill, Chief reporter
POLICE and fire crews were called in after a Blackburn man refused to come down from a roof in the Infirmary area this morning.
An hour-long stand-off developed between officials and the man, in his 20s, after an altercation at Infirmary Street, close to The Ivy pub, at around 3.30am.
Fire service watch manager John Leach said police initially requested a ladder be erected next to the property, so officers could talk with the man.
But later a specialist platform was drafted in from Hyndburn station so negotiations could continue.
The man, who has not been named, was detained by police after about an hour and was later taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment.
He is due to be questioned over the incident, which caused part of Infirmary Street to be sealed off.
