Man in court over Blackburn arson

A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been charged after a fire in that left a mother and her children in hospital.

Christopher McEvoy, of St Stephen's Road, Preston, faces charges of arson with intent to endanger life.

He was set to appear in Blackburn magistrates court today where police will ask for him to be remanded in custody.

Four people had to be rescued from the fire on Oakenhurst Road, Blackburn at 1.40am on April 24.

Firefighters used hose reel jets and ventilation units to get the fire and smoke under control, and they asked the residents to move to a room in their flats.

Among those rescued was a mother in her 30s and her two young children. They were taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for slight smoke inhalation.
