LEADERS of a mosque which was given planning permission to build a £1.5million premises have submitted modifications to the scheme.

In June, clerics at Noorul Islam Mosque, Audley Range, Blackburn, were given permission to build a larger mosque on the opposite side of Dewhurst Street to the current building.

The two-storey building will have two minarets, a dome, arched entrance and Islamic design windows.

It will be 30ft tall, with 20ft minarets on top with floorspace of 21,000sq ft.

The new application adds two external escape staircases, an extra entrance on to Dewhurst Street and four extra car parking spaces.

The planning hearing was highly contentious and three Blackburn with Darwen councillors were accused of breaching planning rules.

Couns Suleman Khonat, Yusuf Sidat, and Salim Mulla, denied they had done anything wrong.

The Standards Board for England, which acts as a watchdog over councillors' behaviour, said it would not be investigating.
