RESIDENTS are taking action to tackle a rubbish problem which they claim is caused by Blackburn Rovers fans on matchdays.

And they have called for a warden to patrol the car park behind Wolseley Street to prevent people dropping litter before and after games at Ewood Park.

Rhona King, of Wolseley Street is involved with the Ewood and Furness Community Association, and has organised a clean-up operation on the car park, owned by Blackburn with Darwen Council, next Saturday.

She said: "On a big game there could be up to 40 cars parked on the car park and when they come back they just dump their rubbish on the floor."

People also come and dump bin bags full of rubbish on the car park and Mrs King feels the council should be doing something about it.

Mrs King contacted Beverley Ashburner, of Mill Hill Community Centre who has asked Capita, which operates soem key services for the council, for support and to get some bins and signs placed around the car park.

Ms Ashburner said: "This is a great idea because we hope to be able to bring the community together and to make young people more aware of the problem and make them feel proud of their area."

Ray Grimshaw, assistant director of regeneration and environment at the council, said: "The car parks in that area are mainly used by Rovers' fans on matchdays, but are used at other times.

"After matches at Ewood Park, the area immediately surrounding the stadium is swept by the street cleansing team. If residents wish to report fly tipping or excessive litter, we would urge them to call the cleansing hotline on 01254 585921 and we will respond."

Mrs King is looking for volunteers to take part in the clean-up on April 26, starting at 10am and finishing around 1pm.

For more information contact Mrs King on 01254 580628.

If you don't like it then move house! Other people in Blackburn have to put up with noise from the roadsweeper early in the morning too, it comes past our house at 6am every tuesday morning. If it bothers you so much on a Sunday after the match go back to sleep like most other normal people do.

I live near some shops there is litter around all of the time - but I have better things to think about than that.

I can't park outside my house on matchdays as rovers fans use our street to park on - but as I said before, I don't get upset about it because life is too short to worry about little things like that.

If you're so fed up with living mear Ewood Park then bloody move house!!!

P.s. Don't worry only one more home game and then you'll have some peace and quiet until August hehe!

Watched the match on telly whilst having a beer -- no foul language/smells.
Woken about 9;30 by the birds singing and the aroma of my bacon butty and a brew.
No sign of road sweeper yet.
Wish I lived in Ewood.

houting,swearing,lit
tering and nothing is done about it by the authorities but thanks to the incompetence of the town hall im the one that ends up with a 70 pound fine.It really is time something was done about this because i am no longer prepared to put with intimidating anti social behaviour just because i live near to Ewood park and the official away pub the Fernhurst

Changing the subject slightly, thought i would get down to Ewood early this morning to get myself a matchday programme and a white umbro polo shirt with the Rovers badge on for today. Considering its match day, i was told that they didnt have any programmes for sale yet due to them not being delivered.Pathetic excuse, every other Premiership club get their programmes delivered the day before ready to sell at start of business on matchday. Then it went from bad to worse regarding the polo shirt, the shop manager told me that they dont sell polo shirts with the Rovers badge on because the shop is now owned by sports world, not Blackburn Rovers. What is going on down there these days, its ridiculous. Its no wonder the club don't make money on merchandise when they don't even have their own shop.Is it me or have other supporters had similar problems when trying to buy merchandise.Apart from the home and away kits and a small range of training kit the rest is discounted end of the range rubbish.Jack Walker would be embarrased if he could see how his club shop is now being run.God knows how the club are going to cope later with the sell-out.Suggest they open the turnstiles at one then we don't have a repeat of what happened against City and Celtic.Small time mentality only causes unnecassary problems.

I concur with everything Craig and vikingpower have to say. I lived down ewood most my life, BRFC brought the area to it's knees.I remember the club forcing residents to move who had lived in the same houses since birth and inherited them from their parents. Some had been there 80 years, One chap could remember that the place was an army barracks at one time so dont spout **** about the club being there first. It was odd how some elderly residents who didnt want to move had 'break ins'.

We have just spotted a bubble fly past the window. It had Burnly on the side. Could not spot any E in the Burnly partly because they all take 'E's' in Burnly, or that's what we have just been informed of.

It's been reported to mission control at NASA.

Turf Moor must have the cleanest stadium and surrounding areas in the Country because no one goes to watch them!!! You Burnley fans are too busy coming on here telling us how shiite Rovers are despite us being in a position you Dingles can only dream of!!!

As for Scholes and Giggs, we will send them on to you if they turn out to be shiite like Alan Mahon!!!

Now jog on!!!

I live near Ewood. I am fed up on match days watching people throw up, urinate, throw bottles, drop litter and sing filthy songs. I have wrote to the club about it but all they said is what the players do in their own time is up to them.
Ha Ha Losers. Relegation fight next season. Scholes and Giggs you're having a laugh they would rather play in Utd reserves. Europe? yea if war breaks out.
I always knew you were a sh1te club and now you've got sh1te all around it.

We saw your stadium on the telly when you played Arsenal. We don't get to see Turf Moor on TV often as you are shiite but I can honestly say, I am so glad we don't have to look at it on Match of the day and Sky Sports every weekend!!!

Now, when you get back from cashing your giro to your 30 grand terrace between two empty houses that get used occaisonally by heroin addicts to jack up.

We would love to hear from you again because you really make us Rovers fans chuckle with your foolish jibber jabber!!!!

Cracking quote, I wonder if the people of Chernobyl shared your thoughts. Many people moved into Ewood when the club attracted far fewer fans and people were far more respectful of the environment, being careful to place litter into the nearest bin. When the redevolopment was planned a great many promises were made by the club, very few of which were delivered. The rubbish dumped upon the streets of Ewood has been a disgrace for years yet the club and the council prefer to turn a blind eye. I wonder what would happen if the ground was in Pleasington?

I'm in total agreement with vikingpower I live on Nuttall Street not only do we have to put up with the litter but also the people fighting and shouting outside at 2am in the morning thanks to the Blues Bar. How a late licence was ever agreed so close to a residential area I'll never know, but very little consideration seems to have been given to residents in the area. Then there's the road sweeper that very kindly comes to clean the road and pavement at 7.15 every Sunday morning after a match has been played on Saturday. Thanks BWD Borough Council I'm up at 6.15 Monday to Friday just what I need at weekend.

Then there's the parking problem it's no good BWD providing parking permits if they never check to ensure that non permit holders are not parking in designated areas.

Yes the football ground was there long before any of the current residents were thought of, however, better management of issues could result in fans and residents living in harmony.............

So you think its acceptable for people to drop litter, shout abuse and urinate in public just because they are attending a football match do you?I live just off Bolton rd near to the Fernhurst and witness this type of behaviour every home game.

The council should never have approved the re building of Ewood Park at its current site, I appreciate that history plays its part in these things but the whole stadium should have been rebuilt at Whitebirk (which I believe was suggested at the time Mr Walker was in charge).
Not only would this prevent peoples homes being affected but it would have stopped the traffic chaos associated with every home match day as supporters would have had easy access to the main routes in and out.
