I was on Blackburn train station on Saturday as the EDL protest was finishing. I did feel apprehensive waiting for my train, but the station staff and police were very organised, everyone of them knew what they were doing and where to be, which meant my friend and I felt reassured. It's just a pity that so much money had to be spent in order for these people to exercise their right, when we are all experiencing cuts in services due to budget cuts.

police did good job and its appreciated
however my concerns are:

government talks about cuts in costs / budget whlie such unecessary crimes of "race hate" is given a go - ahead and used millions of pounds.

So, a bunch of drunken louts met in Blackburn draped in the flag of Palestinian St George (who, ironically enough, is venerated as a martyr in early Islamic texts), had a big punch up with each other in an outdoor circus ring, the went home again under supervision. Cost - £1 million.

£1m says Jack Straw. As a team of newspaper reporters did you not ask how that figure had been calculated? If they spent that to herd 2,500 protesters, that works out at £400 for each protester or £526 for each copper.
It would have been cheaper to fly the EDL out to Prague for the weekend!!

I am being made redundent at the end of this month and that sort of money would have been better spent.
I attended the March in London for the cuts last Saturday 26th march and the Police were not over kill as in Blackburn. The state this town is in the money would be better spent!

i agree but the money would not have been spent in the right places anyway. i also agree this meeting was futile. the housing will still be substandard and the pot holes in the road will still be there in 6 months time , the hospitals will still be dirty and the staff uncaring. and we will still have all the same problems as we did yesterday, and spending the money on the meeting would not have changed that one bit.

to be honest .. if you had seen the past protest such as Leicester, Bolton, Bradford etc.. the Police had to be prepared.

Well midas, like I said on another thread, out of a population of 105000, only 500 people turned up to protest against the EDL. As the Asian population of Blackburn is about 25%, there could have been a potential 25000 muslims. It also leads to the question of where were all the white people that wanted to defend this wonderful multicultural society that we all believe in? Besides Jack Straw being stood with the rest of the women, they’re a bit thin on the ground.

It’s easy to list discussion points so I’ll have a go.

What’s Islam’s opinion on Homosexuality?
How can smoking tobacco be ok when alcohol isn’t? Both are toxin’s to the body yet one is banned. (I think it’s because Allah didn’t know it existed in the 7th Century)
Why is spitting deemed ok yet it spread TB and other diseases?
Why is still culturally acceptable to marry cousins abroad and then have 3,4, or even 5 kids with significant disabilities all because of inbreeding?
Why do you need an Islamic school for girls and why does it need to have a Arabic name when it is in England? Is it because this town is just an extension of India/Pakistan?

Hey midas. There have been a spate of wife beatings where the ‘community leaders’ have taken it at hand and ‘suggested’ that women let the community sort this out. The Judge presiding other one of the case was disgusted by the action of these people and I cannot wonder what other issues are addressed behind closed doors by a society which is male orientated. UK justice is flawed but it’s better than this sharia law, that in it’s extreme (the middle east and Afghanistan), is brutal and sexist.

Hey midas. There have been a spate of wife beatings where the ‘community leaders’ have taken it at hand and ‘suggested’ that women let the community sort this out. The Judge presiding other one of the case was disgusted by the action of these people and I cannot wonder what other issues are addressed behind closed doors by a society which is male orientated. UK justice is flawed but it’s better than this sharia law, that in it’s extreme (the middle east and Afghanistan), is brutal and sexist. The lass from Blackburn who wants to be miss universe. She’s received death threats because she’s a muslim. Even Lord Patel had a go at her. It suggests that the Lord like’s the trappings of the title but not the responsibility that goes with it. An example of why our parallel lives aren’t merging. The UK's ok, until it goes against your cultural heritage.

Again you take an extreme example but then seem to ignore the number of domestic violence cases involving white people that aren't taken to Court because there is pressure put on the female not to proceed or even cases where they decide to seek mediation not criminal justice.

Well midas, like I said on another thread, out of a population of 105000, only 500 people turned up to protest against the EDL. As the Asian population of Blackburn is about 25%, there could have been a potential 25000 muslims. It also leads to the question of where were all the white people that wanted to defend this wonderful multicultural society that we all believe in? Besides Jack Straw being stood with the rest of the women, they’re a bit thin on the ground. It’s easy to list discussion points so I’ll have a go. What’s Islam’s opinion on Homosexuality? How can smoking tobacco be ok when alcohol isn’t? Both are toxin’s to the body yet one is banned. (I think it’s because Allah didn’t know it existed in the 7th Century) Why is spitting deemed ok yet it spread TB and other diseases? Why is still culturally acceptable to marry cousins abroad and then have 3,4, or even 5 kids with significant disabilities all because of inbreeding? Other religions are more tolerant in 21st century Britain. There is also more integration between Christians of all denominations and I’m pretty sure I’m not called infidel or gora by the local Catholics or the pope (as far as I know). read it again neesh, it is in plain English however this page has turned into a history lesson. the headline was about all the money that was spent on the protest. which turned out to be lies anyway and it was half that ammount. also there were counter protests to make up that ammount. and the counter protest shouldnt have even been allowed to happen on the same day. but was obviously allowed to cause antagonism.
