POLICE have closed two suspected drugs dens.

On Friday afternoon Blackburn magistrates granted Closure Orders on two houses in East Street, Bank Top, Blackburn, for a period of three months.

It was the first time officers have simultaneously closed two properties in Eastern Division and only the second time in the whole of Lancashire.

The closure order was granted after the local Neighbourhood Policing Team gathered evidence of Class A drug use at the properties.

Continuous complaints from local residents about suspicious behaviour and serious nuisance and disorder along with Class A drug use in the area prompted police to take action.

On Wednesday, April 2, officers carried out two drugs warrants at the addresses, seizing Class A drug paraphernalia such as syringes, foil, a homemade saw and homemade bongs.

Speaking after the order was granted, PC Chris Hammill said: "The order reflects the determination of the police, the court and the local authority to stamp out drug-related crime in East Lancashire.

"We are extremely grateful to the local community for providing us with information to help us to close these two properties and I hope people are reassured that we have listened to their concerns and acted on the complaints they have made.

"Over the last few months, we have received numerous complaints through PACT meetings and other forums which have been vital in gathering intelligence to close the properties.

"I hope that thection helps to improve the quality of life for residents as well as demonstrating the determination of the police to use all available legislation to take firm action."

The order means that the premises will be closed for three months, during which time it will be an offence under Section 4 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act to remain in or enter the premises. A person who commits an offence under Section 3 of this act is liable to up to six months' imprisonment or a fine of up to £5,000 or both.

Anyone with any information about drug dealing or activity is urged to contact police on 0845 1 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Futile police propaganda. Enforcing futile laws is not a solution to understanding the problem.

This just gives the neighbourhood spies and the police the 'appearance' that they are winning another phoney war.

Before anyone pats themselves on the back they should remember that Heroin production in Afghanistan has doubled since the Troops landed. 95% is coming into this country and the Police can't even keep it out of their own prisons.

Taking over Peoples homes and putting them out onto the streets is solving nothing.

Anyone who thinks they are acheiving anything is living in cloud-cuckoo land.

Simply Simon, you really are simple are'nt you? What it is achieving is giving the decent law abiding people in the street a bit of peace of mind, and getting rid of the drug taking scumbags who you seem to be defending.

Who said People who don't take drugs are decent and law-abiding?

Some very unpleasant People don't use drugs or live in crack houses. Horrible things go on in decent well-heeled neighbourhoods behind closed doors.

Has the community ever thought about helping these People? or are the residents just content with neighbourhood snitching initiatives.

You assume too much to qualify as intelligent jcb.

Try helping your neighbours if you are concerned about having a decent neighbourhood. There's nothing noble about being a secret 'snitcher'.

Our Communities are becoming more Saddam-style every day.

Even the Police admit they cannot stop the drugs trade.

The Police is little more than a Publicity Machine.

That's why the Media are the first to be allowed in with a camera.

It's just Good for Police Publicity.

That is what the taxpayer expects- Good Publicity.

It's the ones running the society that has led to these problems.

Bank Basra is a hell-hole. DEPRIVED of funding.

Twin valley and other housing agencies are dumping teenage mums with liitle or no support.

More needs to be done to PROTECT. The Police are crap at detection. Most of them don't have an investigative gene between them.

Focus MORE ON PROTECTION. Less on detection.

Simply Simon makes some great points but seems to miss one crucial point. This closure was not made under drugs laws but under the anti-social behaviour act. These people were making our lives a misery. It is a stroke of genius by the police to go through the civil courts not the criminal courts to protect us from this antisocial behaviour. They are doing what we want and even what Simply Simon wants -protection and proaction instead of detection. Keep up the good work cops and Simply.

Some very good points raised from siply simon and a few others. I came to the conclusion along time ago that if all drugs where legally run by the state that a lot of crime from petty to serious crime would stop over night. How many drug barons who get others to do their dirty work would loose their illegal source of incomes? Top Policemen and indeed some Politicians realise that it is a war that cannot be won. Put the Barons out of buisness by legalising the full works. I do not condone the use of Drugs but I would rather it was run by the state then paying some creep to live in luxury at the expense and suffering from the user down to the victim of crime. Drugs are not just a problem in the UK but World Wide has some people think. Prohibitation of Alcohol in the USA never worked it created gangsters just like the drugs trade has done.

i wonder how much the taxpayer is paying the landlord for the service he provides.it would be nice to see his tax returns to see how much goes through the books and how much stright in the back pocket.and what is cut would be of the drugs supplied to his "tennants"

Its all well and good everyone having there opinions and there are some very good points hear! but the thing is it wont make a blind bit of difference. since when has our opinions mattered and since when have the police come because we really need them, you can see the problems as clear as the day but it will continue and we wont matter so long as the goverment are lining there pockets with silk then noone else matters. even they are off there heads on drugs!!!!!!....
