College in Blackburn signs five-year deal with bus company

ST Mary’s College, Blackburn, has signed a five-year deal with local bus company Moving People under which the firm will be the sole provider of transport for the college. College principal Kevin McMahon said: “In this difficult economic climate it made sense to consolidate our transport to one supplier and in Moving People we have a company with proven quality, first-rate modern coaches and just the flexibility we require in this changing educational environment.”

Stuart Coates, director of Moving People, said: “We are delighted we have been chosen. We are determined to deliver an efficient and cost-effective service with drivers and support staff who share our values and those of St Mary’s College.

“We carry about 1,000 young people every day throughout East Lancashire with an age range from infants to young adults and we recognise that every one of them is a potential customer of the future.”

The new venture allows St Mary’s to offer free transport to all students on college bus routes.

Students do not need to apply as bus passes will be issued at enrolment.
