Blackburn tagged man sent to jail for drink-driving
8:00pm Tuesday 26th June 2012 in Blackburn
MICHAEL John Slater, 28, of Fowler Height Close, Blackburn, was sent to prison for 12 weeks by Blackburn magistrates after pleading guilty to taking a car without consent and driving with excess alcohol.
The court heard Slater rowed with his mum because she wouldn’t let him smoke in the house and he couldn’t go outside because he was on a monitored curfew.
He left the house and took his stepfather’s car keys on the way out.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Slater intended to sleep in the car but drove to a friend’s house and was stopped on the way.
Imposing an immediate custodial sentence, the chairman of the magistrates said they had been influenced by Slater’s non-compliance with previous court orders.
