Blackburn headteacher set to step down after 15 years

A BLACKBURN headteacher has announced he will be retiring this summer.

Robin Campbell, of Pleckgate High School Mathematics and Computing College is leaving after 15 years at the school.

Mr Campbell spearheaded the Pleckgate Road school’s specialist mathematics and computing status.

His school was the first to be completed and opened under Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Building Schools for the Future programme last September.

He said: “I have been very fortunate with the people I have worked with, both staff and governors; so many wonderful people who have been committed to making a difference.

“I will really miss the bustle of energy at the school with the students and staff as well as the teamwork, camaraderie and sense of community that we have here.

Mr Campbell and his wife are planning a cross-country trip around the USA and Canada, including Chicago, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver following his retirement.

Counc Maureen Bateson, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s executive member for children’s services, said: “Robin is a highly respected teacher and leader.”
