Student from Blackburn is voted region's new youth MP
3:00pm Tuesday 10th April 2012 in Blackburn
Danielle Wallace has been chosen as the region's new youth MP.
YOUNG voters have chosen Blackburn College student Danielle Wallace to be their new youth MP.
The 16-year-old promised she would represent young people in Blackburn with Darwen to the best of her abilities after being elected.
Over the next year, she wants to get a local helpline for young people, run by young people set up.
She also wants to set up job clubs specifically for young people and she wants to lobby about cuts to the Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA).
Danielle’s two deputies are Hamzah Ahmed and Ammaarah Patel.
Councillor Kate Hollern, leader of the council and returning officer for the election, said: “I know Danielle wants to make a difference and fight for the borough. I am sure she, along with her deputies, will embody the spirit of Your Call and work hard to make this borough a better place.
“We have one of the youngest populations in the country so their views are very important. The Youth MP is an important role and they do influence important decisions."
More than 5,500 young people voted in the election.
