A 31-YEAR-old woman is in a stable condition after she was knocked down.

Police said the woman, from Blackburn, suffered serious head injuries when she stepped out in front of a car in Sett End Road, Shadsworth, Blackburn, at 6am yesterday.

She had been travelling in a taxi with her husband but when she left the vehicle she was hit by a grey Renault Clio three door saloon, which had been driven by a 65-year-old man from Oswaldtwistle.

Following the accident the ambulance service were called. Paramedics were first at the scene and police arrived moments later.

Police said the woman remained conscious at the scene.

The woman was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital’s A&E department for treatment for head injuries.

She was then transferred to Royal Preston Hospital, which specialises in head injuries, at around 9am. Her condition last night was described as stable.

Police officers closed Shadsworth Road to Johnson Way while they carried out accident investigation work.

The road reopened three hours and 20 minutes after the accident.

A police spokesman said: “If anyone witnessed the incident or has any information we would urge them to contact police.”
