Prince William and Kate Middleton to visit East Lancashire

ROYAL VISITORS Prince William and Kate Middleton leaving Belfast City Hall ROYAL VISITORS Prince William and Kate Middleton leaving Belfast City Hall

PRINCE William and his fiancee Kate Middleton are to visit Blackburn and Darwen in the weeks before their Easter wedding.

Preparations are underway at a number of venues in the borough, and top-level meetings are being carried out over routes and security.

The visit will be one of the last engagements carried out before the couple marry in Westminster Abbey on April 29.

Clarence House declined to comment, while the exact date and locations the couple will visit have not been revealed.

But the Lancashire Telegraph understands the pair will visit in the weeks before their wedding.

One of the purposes will be to meet young people.

They will go to both towns in the borough.

It has not yet been revealed exactly why they are coming to the area, although the pair are thought to be embarking on a number of visits around the country ahead of their big day.

Blackburn MP Jack Straw said it was ‘flattering’ the pair had decided to visit.

He said: “It’s great news for the whole area and it’s very flattering that they are coming to the borough just before their wedding.

“I hope everybody will be boosted by the news.”

Council leader Kate Hollern joked: “It’ll be Kate meets Kate! It’s quite a coup for us.

“We are really pleased they have chosen Blackburn with Darwen and we will give them a good traditional welcome to the area.

“It is wonderful news that the young Royal couple can come and see what the North West is about.”

Prince William visited Blackburn in May 2008 in his role as president of the FA.

He went to St Aidan’s School in Mill Hill, and played a game with pupils. Miss Middleton has stepped up her public appearances since news of the engagement was announced in November.

The couple made their first visit to Northern Ireland earlier this week when they had a go at tossing pancakes on Shrove Tuesday in Belfast.

In February, they returned to St Andrew’s University in Scotland where they first met and fell in love.

They must be planning a visit to the Mall. I spotted two suits there, with lumpy jackets and wearing hearing aids, scanning the place. They stuck out like sore thumbs being over-dressed for Blackburn town centre.

At a time when the whole of the country is facing severe financial cuts, the whole idea of the obscenity of the cost of the wedding is a disgrace. We now have to find extra money, locally, to police a visit by these leeches who could never, ever understand what the ordinary people of this country are going through. We don't want them here, and I don't want a single penny of my Council Tax being wasted on them.

Reminder :
.
During some of the interviews after the break up of the marriage, Diana had stated that in looking back she could see that Charles had never been genuine in his affection towards her, and even before the wedding she had realised she would be having a relationship with his true love and consort Camilla Parker Bowles, which of course became more apparent as the marriage continued. One should not be too judging on why Diana stayed with Charles as long as she did, for many ladies they feel they can change their chosen partner, in fact that is the basis of many females when they chose their husbands, as it is for many males also. During the marriage Charles and Camilla communicated with the code ‘Gladys and Fred’.

The people of East Lancashire have always welcomed members of the Royal Family.
What does concern me though is the fact that the Council Leader, will be there grabbing the limelight, wearing her new clothes for the occasion,no doubt paid for by expenses.
Also the council had better start cleaning up the town now,or should they laeve it be and outsiders can see for themselves what a tip it has become.
I hope they enjoy their visit, and see the people that really count and the leader stays at home,or goes to her well paid job.
The Mayor should do all the meeting and greeting.

The Monarchy cost us more than they bring in - fact! But, surprisingly, I'm not an anti-Monarchist because I'm a bit of a traditionalist. But they have enough money of their own without us having to pay for them to enjoy little jollies at OUR expense. What about the infamous parties that Will and Harry have held? £30,000 for champagne in a London nightclub? What planet are they on? I have no objection to them coming here, but as they can afford it, and our Council can't, then it should be at their expense. We are cutting services to children and the elderly. But, hey! Let's chuck elderly patients out of care homes which we can't afford, whilst we pay for policing Will & Kate's visit. I hope those supporting this don't have families who are losing out through these cuts, whilst we spend money on the poor Royals.

Myself and my children are so excited with them coming here and we should all feel honoured with their visit instead of putting them off before they even arrive. Where has your hospitality gone? as for the police time etc...- it's about time they did something constructive for once!!!!

Kirklees? Last time I looked, that was in Yorkshire. Not in East Lancs!
.
Look, it's not about whether we like the Royals or not. It's about spending large amounts of money when the rest of the country is having to make cuts. How can anyone justify this level of PUBLIC expenditure when vital local services are being slashed? It's the sort of stuff which fuels anarchic elements.

Glasshalffull, this visit will cost the Council hundreds of thousands. Are you happy about that, bearing in mind the number of jobs that are going to be lost in these cuts? If one of your relatives was facing redundancy, you'd think differently! Incidentally, I'm not in that position, but I have more empathy for them than I do for the Royals.

Sadly there are too many lower class (NOT working class) pessemist losers on here.If they hate the royal family so much they'll forefit their day off work on the day of the royal wedding. What's wrong with being wealthy Phuck mei, is it because you belive the rich should be taxed 90% and their money given to those on benefits.Would you rather people think Lancashire is a area where every body talks with a strange accent and wears clogs and flat caps, or people know it to be one of the Places Prince William and Kate Middleton are visting.I tell you again, the royal wedding cost is A grain of sand compared to the Overseas aid,EU and the Illegal afghan war budgets.

Well I was intrigued to find out what was going on regarding the Royal visit, as I only caught half a story on the news yesterday. I read with excitement as I knew there would be a few thousand school children around our Borough who would love to meet a prince and a princess (to be). The children from the most deprived area of the North West only get to read about these people in Fairy Tales and would never dream of meeting one in real life. In fact, not many of our children get books to read . So I'm hoping, as a teacher in one of our local schools, that this enables us to visit them when they arrive as, after all, it is part of our curriculum. We talk about Henry 8th and his wives so why shouldn't we talk about the Prince who is next in line to the throne. The children will have this as an experience that they will never forget. So will I!

But then when I read further down to the columns of comments posted by allegedly 'die hard Darreners' and the 'why does our town get nowt and Blackburn gets everything' types I was really embarrassed. In fact I was ashamed to be associated with any of you. Winge? My god! I thought politicians were good at finding the negative in everything, but you lot have certainly surpassed them. Money, money money. It all boils down to that. Even if Darwen had the money (and I know it doesn't!) you would winge about spending it for this too.

This country doesn't need anymore energy sappers than it has already! You lot suck the enjoyment out of life because you see things as always being so difficult. To be honest I hope that if we did turn it into a school outing, non of the wingers would turn up. Our children have trouble seeing things in a positive light as it is, without you lot making it even more difficult!

To all the people who are looking forward to the visit, and have commented so, you are all great. I hope to see you there!

Who knows, maybe if we didn't shell out all that money for people being on benefits rather than getting up of their lazy backsides and finding a job, we could fund this visit ten times over.

No I won't. I've lived outside the region in the past for work. But what's that got to do with this story? My premise is simple - the country, and this Borough, are strapped for cash. The Royals aren't. So if they want to "big themselves up", why are you, me and every other Council taxpayer having to foot the bill? If Buck House announce that they are paying for it all, then even I would probably show up waving a flag. But don't hold your breath!

I'll bet a penny to a pound of sh*t the happy couple don't visit any of our decaying and decrepit town centres, nor will they visit the pits of despair commonly called council estates.
Personally, I think the visit has been arranged by William so he can show Kate how fortunate she is to be marrying him, even with the attendant Windsor ( aka Sachs-Coberg-Gotha ) baggage, rather than having to live in East Lancashire with the peasants.

Please stop whinging.
Well it seems I've had a good teacher! You are a prime example of a middle aged energy Sapper that insists on taking the great out of Great Britain! And if you are not middle aged your attitudes certainly are!
i think you`re the one with old fashioned views, the Royal Family is an out dated institution people like you need to grow up.

Most kids would rather watch the Adams Family visit Darwen than the Royal Family if you don`t believe me ask them.

Bankhall, unless you know them personally you are hardly qualified to cast comments like those are you?
As for the Royal family, they amassed wealth through centuries of taking and keeping the peasants firmly in thier place, hardly an altruistic bunch when all is said and done.
Personally I am indifferent and believe what they "own" actually belongs to the country, they should be salaried as public sector workers.

I'll bet a penny to a pound of sh*t the happy couple don't visit any of our decaying and decrepit town centres, nor will they visit the pits of despair commonly called council estates. Personally, I think the visit has been arranged by William so he can show Kate how fortunate she is to be marrying him, even with the attendant Windsor ( aka Sachs-Coberg-Gotha ) baggage, rather than having to live in East Lancashire with the peasants.
he'll be telling her that when she is queen, she will never have to deal with the filth and detritus that is the northern working class.

I am a Darwener born and bred.. moved away years ago. (not by choice) Darwen was a great place to grow up in, and yes it has gone down hill, due to people from various parts of the world looking for a better life. I would love to be home to see the royals, not a follower at all and certainly don't need them to make me happy, i agree with the teacher, something nice to look forward to for a change...there is enough bad news in the world. For all you moaning, negative "losers' get a life and be happy for once for someone who may be more fortunate than you are, its not their fault what family they are born into. why don't you try and see the positive sometimes...hey it may make you feel better about yourself??? After all who's life goes the way they want it too??? (do you really think William was ok seeing his mum die in a car accident and slapped over every newspaper...try going through that and smile) Slagging the Royals off shame on you let them have a chance, I am sure for them, just because they have money it won't be all a bed of roses......

I read with excitement as I knew there would be a few thousand school children around our Borough who would love to meet a prince and a princess (to be). The children from the most deprived area of the North West only get to read about these people in Fairy Tales and would never dream of meeting one in real life. You know what! I would ask them but they would have no idea about what they heck the 'Adams' Family is! Trust me.
It's not about having outdated opinions! You're all just not happy unless you are winging about somethign. What hope do the children of today have? And then you wonder why children are running rampant in our high schools? The attitude of people in this country makes me sick
