Anti-violence website launched by Adam Rogers' parents

More stories about: Adam Rogers

THE parents of a Blackburn man killed by a single punch have launched their website ‘Every Action Has Consequences’.

Dave and Pat Rogers have turned their grief at losing 24-year-old son Adam after an unprovoked town centre assault, into a positive campaign to make young people think twice about their actions.

The Lancashire Telegraph is working alongside the Rogers family to promote the initiative.

Their message has been heard as far away as Ipswich, where the council’s substance misuse development officer has invited them to speak at the launch of a scheme to highlight the futility of alcohol-related violence.

The website contains moving tributes from Adam’s family and friends, victim impact statements and details of the campaign’s aims and charity status.

Pat said it had been a ‘long and painful process’ to produce the site, with help from friend John Flanagan, but that she was ‘delighted’ with the result.

She said: “For me personally it has been a lot of hard work, but has helped to give me a real focus and motivation.

"It has been a particularly difficult time for me since the anniversary of Adam's death and I have found it hard to remain positive.

“Making myself work on the website has been an emotional experience.

"I feel a real sense of achievement and hope that it will give a real impetus to our campaign.

“I am also proud to be able to share some of the deeply personal statements and tributes to Adam.”

It is a well established fact that under the "New Labour" government violence, including appalling unprovoked attacks, grew to unprecedented levels. It is also a well established fact that the "New Labour" project failed on Crime and Disorder. "New Labour" are and always were "Soft on Crime and Soft the causes of Crime". We must never allow "New Labour" to infect and corrupt the U.K. again, Are you listening Mr Nihiliband?

you cant go blaming anyone else for mindless thugs, it is them and them alone, no government makes them get drunk the start on someone. its time people took responsibility for their own actions, and the courts to take the action to stop them doin it again, no slaps on wrists, like payback schemes are

Sadly, I doubt a website and campaign will do much to change the attitudes of those who don't care how much they drink or the consequences of drinking too much. They're probably not going to be the sort of people who would go on the website and take any time out to pause for thought.

I agree with suttydog -as do many people- that the 'authorities' are way too soft with these people, and the only way to make them sit up and think is to have much harsher sentencing. The sentence should never match the crime -it should always exceed it.

Good luck with this as a nurse I see first hand the destruction caused by mindless violence, only this weekend we had a lad in needing stitches in his face after having a glass thrown at him - he'll be scarred for life. As a mother of a teenage boy I can't sleep until I know e is back home safe at night. People need to think before they react to situations.
