Blackburn pupils spell out speeding message

‘HOW would you feel if you had killed me?’... that was the question speeding drivers were asked by 10 and 11-year-old children.

The group of year six pupils at St Francis’ Primary School, Feniscowles, used a speed gun provided by the South West Neighbourhood Police Team to pull over drivers in Cherry Tree Lane on Wednesday morning.

A handful of motorists were stopped for speeding, one of whom was using a mobile phone and another was not wearing a seatbelt.

Headteacher Sharon Thomas said they faced some ‘tough questions’.

She said: “We have a problem, as do a lot of schools, with people driving too fast outside school and parking on the zig zag lines.

“I understand that parents are rushed, but we’ve got to put the children’s safety first. The children asked them how they would feel if they had hit one of their classmates. It has more effect coming from the children themselves.”

Community beat manager Lyndsey Armstrong and PCSOs Amy Wolski and Seppo Murphy oversaw the Operation Pathway initiative.

PC Armstrong said: “The speeding motorists were offered the chance to speak to the children instead of a prosecution.

"The children were quite intimidating! The drivers were very apologetic and promised to take on board what the pupils said.

"They felt ashamed that the children in the area saw their driving mistakes.”

Public humiliation like this, used to take place in China and probably still does in North Korea

Where in law does it say that if you don't subject yourself to this humiliation, you will be prosecuted?

I suggest the authorities read up on Section 21 of the Theft Act - Blackmail and/or Bribery.

Take your choice.

There is no support for speeding or inappropriate driving but I suggest that any motorist who is subject to this illegal behaviour should sue all parties involved including the school who are brainwashing the children by supplying them with emotive questions.

This does nothing towards improving road safety. It's exploitation.

Sir your are a clown of the first degree

The children that you say were being exploited are the ones at greatest risk from these idiots.

Before you comment you should witness Cherry Tree Lane at each end of the school day. It is an accident waiting to happen

And to the lazy woman who daily parks on the Zig Zags at the schoool entrance ( Yes you know who you are), you look like you could do with some excercise , so why not park out on the main road and walk the 200 yards to school.

Personaly I will extend the Zig Zags along the whole road, so that the Kids can get in the gates without fear of a nutter mowing them down whilst trying to execute a six point turn so that they can get back out of the road.
We have to face the fact that St Francis , like most other Primary schools was built in an age when Kids walked to school rather than travelled in the Chealsea Tractor right up to the school gate, and is therefore not blessed with facilities for 100 Cars for 20 minutes each end of the day.
Most of the parents I see there, are fit and healthy, and would therfore not suffer do parking on Preston Old Road and walking around the corner.

Well done Mrs T for at least trying to raise awareness of this issue

Thank you for your comments 'onlyonesimongarner, ewood' but please allow me to enlighten you further.

Anyone who uses either emotion or an insult to justify unlawful behaviour is, more often than not, a person who has something to hide.

I say again; I do not condone, in any way, reckless, careless, dangerous or any inappropriate driving - such persons should be taken off the road - but there's no excuse for this school, or even the police, to take the law into there own hands.

Let me put it more simply;

You are stopped for 'allegedly' exceeding the speed limit - on somebody's say so (no court or right of defence) and if you do not subject yourself to this humiliation, you will be given a Fixed-Penalty ticket for £60.00 (at least). If you subject yourself to these children's (the school staff) questions then we will forget about it!!!!

So if you decide to 'pay-up' instead of going into the school, your fine will be enforced. As plain a criminal offence that one can ever witness.

It's akin to unlawfully demanding money by using a menace.

Personally, I think the drivers should have been prosecuted anyway.

The lack of enforcement of ALL the motoring laws is eidenced by the number of people driving without insurance, tax, seatbelts etc. Unfortunately, speed is focussed upon as it is measurable by a machine. The standard of driving generally is linked to this one-track enforcement regime.

Dumb down drivers skills and you get accidents. Regardless of what the speed limit is.

Diver awareness, zip up your anorak and get back to your highway code DVD or be off train spotting. Nothing wrong with the kids shaming the speeders and mob phone users into submission.

Hi All.

Ok people time to see what is really going on here....
.
Here we have the state using our children to force law, it starts with law then turns green...
.
Hitler did exactly this which places the children against the parents, he called them Brown shirts.
.
They will be Green shirts today because they will use the children to force the carbon taxation and legislation, the plan is to have your child keep fils on the families usage of everything they can tie a green
label to.
.
See beyond the spin and see what is really going on in our schools

Here Here! - this is what I would say to any of the w*nk*rs that blithely speed past me every day up Bull Hill in the new extended 30 limit. Why do I do 30, because if someone killed my kids through speeding, I would want to kill them. So it is not unreasonable to expect the same if I killed theirs, ergo I do not speed.

As for Lifeinthemix's comment - it is happening! A friend of mine's 4 year old came home and was upset about her dad driving "because it killed penguins" - this is what their teacher has told them at school FFS! The irony being that said teacher drives a 4 litre Jeep 4x4 so what the F*ck is she doing preaching green **** to the kids. Teach them to read and write, hardly any of them can by the time they leave secondary school, let alone primary.

Its happening alright, the teachers are now also asking children what kind of computer games they play, and getting very excited at the fact they all play cod 4!

I can see teachers reporting families for letting them play the games the corporations have absolutely no fault to bare.....la la land.....

You are right to point out the fact they are indoctrinating the children via terror tactics, they create a picture of absolute terror to a child to programme them to go against the rules laid out by the parent and have them trust only the school and helpers and all the creepy folk they now have in our schools...

I know lifeinthemix can present some loopy posts on here, but he is spot on with this one.
Driver awareness has a valid point, and has every right to make it. Thank goodness there is only one simongarner. His post has nothing to do with speed, which was the point of the police operation, but instead went off on one about the conduct of the parents of the very children involved stopping errant motorists, dropping off and picking them up from school. Totally different subject.
Personal abuse by posters always confirms to me that the poster has lost the argument. Quite infantile. Suggest such people (you know who you are, simon) remain on the football threads an leave sensible people to discuss, without abuse, the news of the day.
