TWIN Valley Homes is giving potential new customers the chance to literally ‘sleep on it’, to show them how life can be in their supportive communities.

The housing association, the biggest registered social landlord in Blackburn with Darwen, is giving retired people the chance to spend some time at one of its sheltered schemes.

They can then get a feel for their potential new home, experience the various activities and get a first-hand account from other residents.

Potential residents also have the option of spending the night, free of charge, at one of the schemes to give them the full experience.

Executive director Kevin Ruth said: “When people think of sheltered accommodation, they usually have negative thoughts.

“But we’re aiming to change that by giving them the chance to see for themselves what we can offer.

“Many people will have been isolated because of the recent bad weather but that wouldn’t happen living with us.

“So we’d encourage people who are thinking of moving to give us a try, they might be pleasantly surprised.”

Added Mr Ruth: “People who live in Twin Valley Homes’ sheltered accommodation lead an active and independent lifestyle with the added bonus of having support there if they need it.

“And this support became invaluable during the recent cold snap where people found it hard to get around – as well as the problems with burst and frozen pipes.

“Our customers also enjoy regular day trips and services such as free NHS health checks to make sure they stay fit and active.

“So, we are taking this innovative step in a bid to show people what joining one of our supportive communities entails.”
