VIDEO: Pair jailed for attacking Blackburn nightclub doorman with iron bar

TWO violent revellers have been jailed for attacking a doorman with an iron post when he refused them entry to a nightclub.

Lee Almond, 30, of Lytham Road, Blackburn, and George Johnstone, 31, of Crossfields Caravan Park, Haslingden Road, were jailed for a total of nine years and four months.

They each received four years, eight months for wounding with intent.

The incident happened around 2.25am on July 18, 2009, at the Jazzy Kex nightclub, Regent Street, Blackburn.

The victim, 43-year-old doorman William Hodge, of Oswaldtwistle, was working at the club when he refused entry to one member of a group of men.

Following a brief argument the victim was punched to the ground where he lay unconscious.

Graphic CCTV footage shows Mr Hodge being repeatedly punched in the face.

Then one of his attackers picked up a five-kilo metal pole - used to usher queues into the nightspot - and struck him over the head, knocking him unconscious.

Immediately after the blow with the pole, Mr Hodge's body went limp. The attackers fled and people gathered around him trying to help.

Acting Detective Constable Ian Lawless said: “I am happy with the sentence and hope it sends out a clear message that this type of thuggish and violent behaviour will not be tolerated.

“The victim in this case sustained horrific injuries including a fractured skull and cheek bone, and a bleed on the brain. This level of violence could have resulted in a more tragic outcome, and the offenders will now have plenty of time to reflect on the worthiness of their actions.

“As a force we are committed to making the town centre a safe place for the people of Blackburn to socialise.“

tut tut that was out of order what the pair of them did to a top guy just doin his job. but thats a dirty gyspo wanna be for you they all want running out a town .and comment about watch you back in nick hes had good beating but like they say what comes around goes around if i was them i would NEVER ENTER BLACKBURN AGAIN for good !!!

How sickening, I hope they get all they deserve!! George was living up Livesey around Heys Lane area so dont know why it says Crossfields Caravan Park, probably on the fiddle. Hope Big Bill made a full recovery, por bloke doing a job and scrotes like that turn up.

I know the bouncer 'Big Bill' in this case and indeed he is a top bloke. He'd have stuck it all over these numb plums if it wasn't for the cowardly way in which they attacked him.

what a gypo? if he can't handle his ale, then he shouldn't drink it... he might have snorted the white powder early on. He beheved like a little BOY in the school play gound who can't get his own way... He might have "spoilt brat syndrome"..

Just Look at the video pretty much says it all, dunno about Lee but I know George and he is a first rate pr1ck, as for lee using that metal post wasnt a good thing to do, not a great parental role model eh.

if they are going to get there comeuppance then are you going to give it them. it is ok watchin the video but you wasnt there. as for lee being a bully he is not he just stands up for his slef

I dont know Lee but I do know George and the one thing I can say for him is that he is not a ****. He's one of he most well mannered and respectful people (when sober) you could meet and I think this just goes to show how out-of-hand situations can get when drink and whatever else is involved. I am not condoning what happened AT ALL and I wish the Bouncer a full and fast recovery but I just hope that people think twice before judging as I am sure that everyone has done something that they are not proud of would not liked to be judged on that one incident.
