Blackburn pupils in ‘slow down’ plea

PUPILS from a primary school in Blackburn have teamed up with police to give motorists road safety advice.

Over the last three months, different year groups at St Silas Primary, in Clematis Street, have been designing road safety signs before taking them onto Blackburn’s streets to make drivers aware of the consequences of speeding.

Officers have also used speed guns to stop offending motorists and have been giving roadside advice with the children.

PC Gary Hennighan said: “It has been a good way of getting kids involved in an issue with affects the entire area.

“It is more hard-hitting when you see children giving out road safety message rather than just the police.

“The posters they designed are superb and we have had a positive response from drivers.”
