Travel misery as lorry hits low bridge in Blackburn

A LORRY brought problems for motorists and train passengers last night after crashing into a railway bridge in Blackburn.

The HGV hit the bridge in Bolton Road, near Infirmary Road, at 5.45pm, causing huge tailbacks and disruption on the rail network.

The road was closed until around 10pm as the bridge had become unstable and engineers were called to inspect it.

Replacement bus services ran between Blackburn and Bolton for much of the evening.

It looks like that driver is lucky to be alive. And that young man is someone's son. Maybe someone's husband; Dad; brother... It's easy to make 'witty' comments when it isn't you. Or someone you love. Much harder to put yourself in someone else's shoes. One day that could be you. Or one of yours. Bridges can be mended. Shattered lives can't.
