Man charged after armed raid at Blackburn jewellers

DETECTIVES investigating an armed robbery at a Blackburn jewellers have charged a man in connection with the offence.

Cleon Perry, 31, a Londoner of no fixed abode, is due to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court charged with robbery.

The charge relates to a robbery at Ancient and Modern Jewellers in New Market Street, Blackburn, on Wednesday morning when three men armed with a claw hammer made off with jewellery including watches and rings.

No-one was injured in the raid but three shop-workers were said to be left shaken by the incident.

Elaine Asakirah, a shop supervisor at the nearby NCH charity shop, said: “We heard a bit of a commotion outside but had no idea what was going on.

“I can’t believe that anyone would try something like this in the middle of the day when the area was so busy.”

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to contact them on 0845 1 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
