ONE of East Lancashire’s most prolific and well-known criminals has decided he has had enough of getting locked up and wants no more, a court was told.

Norman “Knuckles” Jones, 57, who has almost 140 previous convictions, has had a heart attack, suffers angina and has a drug addiction.

The defendant, who has lived for many years at Earl Street, Colne, but is now at Williams Road, Burnley, had earlier admitted two theft charges.

He was given community order with 12 months supervision and a nine month drug rehabilitation requirement.

The court had been told how Jones went into Accrington Asda on August 9 and tried to get away with a trolley stacked with goods worth £293.

He told police he had no job and had wanted to get things for “the kids.”

Jones made full and frank admissions and the haul was recovered.

Jones then targeted Asda in Blackburn and filled a trolley with items worth almost £200.

Richard Taylor, defending, said: “I have told him it’s time he grew up.

"He’s 58 next month and his behaviour is not of somebody that age.

“His behaviour is, as it says in the pre-sentence report, that of a teenager.”
