EASTERN European rhythms were played out in an East Lancashire setting yesterday.

The Balkanics Band, who hail from Lancaster but play Balkan and Polish folk music, played at Blackburn Town Hall Square as part of the Celebrate Blackburn festival.

The month-long festival replaces Arts in the Park and the Black-burn Mela, which were axed to make way for the joint event.

Members of The Balkanics Band, which only formed last autumn, played high-octane European folk in front of a handful of people.

Today will see another band play in the Town Hall Square, with Acoustic Uprising on from noon and Fiery Jack on from 5pm.
