A MAN is wanted in connection with a town centre assault.

Police want to speak with a man in relation to a knife attack in Blackburn town centre at 4.40pm on Good Friday.

A stranger carrying a knife in Northgate approached another man and tried to 'stab' and 'slash' the victim, a police spokesman said.

Officers said the victim was able to run away after the attacker dropped his mobile phone.

They have now released a CCTV image of a man they want to identify in relation to the incident.

PC Paul Corris, Blackburn community beat manager, said: “We are keen to speak to the man in the picture after this incident.

“The victim did not know the man with the knife, but we believe he is from the Blackburn area.”
