THE snow and cold weather did not bother Princess Elsa and pupils at a Blackburn primary school as their rescheduled World Book Day celebrations went ahead.

Kids at the Redeemer School in Blackburn dressed up as their favourite characters from books such as Where's Wally, Wizard of Oz, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid and also the Hungry Little Caterpillar on Thursday.

They got the chance to do it after their World Book Day celebrations on March 1 were postponed as they closed for the first day in 12 years due to the weather.

But even a fall of snow on Thursday morning was not going to get in the way as school bosses delayed opening until 10am.

Craig Marshall, PE Co-ordinator said: "It was really important that the kids got the chance to take part in World Book Day as it gets the kids into literacy and raise the profile of books and also get enthusiastic about reading."

The school have also won a competition on social media whereby 'Just Imagine North West' will be visiting the school and delivering an interactive story time and workshop from ‘Little Miss Wonderland’ The Redeemer was voted for by 68 people.
